The whole school celebrated the Diamond Jubilee today with a fabulous party and a table that stretched all the way from the kitchen to the KS2 resource area!
Many thanks to everyone who made the day so memorable and such a success - the children, the staff and the parents too for their kind food donations.
Year 6 enjoyed using a combination of PowerPoint and http://www.picasion.com/ this afternoon to create banners explaining some information about the Diamond Jubilee:
Amazingly, we managed to take about 800 photos at Robinwood this weekend!
I published a slideshow of the best photos last night however there were literally hundreds of other photos that I sadly had to miss out from it.
Normally, I would simply archive all these in school but because there were so many left over this time, I've instead decided to publish them ALL online for you to browse through at home in a more traditional 'gallery' format. Enjoy!
Here is the slide show of Year 6's amazing residential to the Robinwood activity centre near Alston in Cumbria this weekend. As you can see the weather was absolutely gorgeous for the entire time - I literally don't think we ever saw a cloud in the sky!
All the children should be extremely proud of themselves for completing so many of the problem-solving and adventurous activities there, including: climbing, stream walking, canoeing and swimming in the 'Piranah Pool'. They always: listened well, tried everything and had fun!
Many thanks to all the staff who made the residential so successful, including both those from Parkfield and our group leaders at Robinwood: Chris, Sally and Ozzy.
I'm happy to report that everyone has survived the Piranah Pool! We're due to leave Robinwood after lunch at 2:20 so should be back at school for about 4:30.
If it works, here's a 360 degree panorama of the centre we are staying in. (Try to spot the ducks and ducklings wandering about!) http://photosynth.net/view/d3549707-8523-4cdb-92fc-b87b5506ec3a
We've had another fabulous day at Robinwood, with a nice breeze cooling everybody off. Groups have enjoyed: doing a blind walk, solving a Dungeon of Doom quest and paddling on a canoe. EVERYBODY has tried their hardest and taken part in every activity, with the favourite so far probably being the star dive on the stream walk in which they all got very wet! We've just finished with a whole class 'Team Challenge' where the children had to work together to: answer quiz questions, build a tower with cups and create a parachute for an egg to stop it from breaking. They're all just getting settled in their bedrooms and hopefully they'll get another good night's sleep ready for our final set of activities in the morning...
We've just finished for the day. The children have enjoyed a nice drink of hot chocolate and are now in their bedrooms getting ready for a good night's sleep before an action-packed day tomorrow including: stream walking, canoeing and Dungeon of Doom! You can see the building with the bedrooms in below:
We've had a brilliant start to our Robinwood adventure, with groups already having done: archery, trapeze and giant swing! The weather has been glorious so far (everyone's had sun cream and hats on) and our enormous three-course tea was delicious. The day's not over yet though - groups have still got to do Piranah Pool and caving...
Please keep checking the website this weekend as we will be attempting to post some photos from Robinwood in the Lake District so you can see what a fabulous time Year 6 are having on their residential trip there!
Back in the Autumn term we held a 'Pod Landing' week in school. All the staff (with the help of Mrs Jeffries' art skills) have put together a big booklet showcasing all the cross-curricular work the children produced, inspired by this strange event. You can view this book in the main entrance however I also thought it would be nice if I put a copy of it online so you can see at home how fantastic it is!
The Life Education Caravan returned for its annual visit this week.
Every class visited inside it to find out about a range of age-appropriate topics to do with their bodies - from staying healthy through exercise and good diet in reception to learning about the different drug classifications and how to respond to peer-pressure in year six.
Year 6 have spent four ICT lessons researching and creating presentations about the Titanic. They practiced using lots of PowerPoint skills and learnt some new ones too - like using master slides to create a consistent design and adding action buttons onto slides.
Every class has enjoyed writing and acting something this week in front of the 'green screen' we hired. Mr Haughton has then magically transformed this dull backdrop into a variety of different settings...
Which is your favourite? Please write a comment underneath to tell everyone!
As part of their topic on forces, Year 6 enjoyed making and flying their own kites this afternoon (to help learn about 'gravity' and 'air resistance').
